Timisoara Workshops in Research Methods

Timisoara Workshops in Research Methods are hosted annually in November covering a wide range of methodologies used in social science research. The workshops are designed to be a forum for productive discussions on substantive research in progress, and to promote and support collaboration among scholars and practitioners. The event brings together for two days approximately 20 participants from several academic and industry institutions, and from different countries. The topic of discussion for this year’s edition is defined around applications of network science to social sciences, and only researchers currently working in the workshop’s field are invited to participate. The main objective of the workshop is to facilitate and encourage collaboration between advanced students and well-established professors, as well as representatives of NGOs and businesses working on applications of network science to solve real-world problems. Participants are expected to conduct research in the field of the workshop, so that they are both able to present a paper for discussion and participate in the discussion of the other papers presented. Some of the papers discussed during the workshop will lead to publications in Romanian Journal of Political Science (PolSci), Vol. 18, no. 1, Summer 2018 – Special Issue on Political Networks, and will contribute to forging new collaborations between participants, as well as strengthening existing ones. The event also hosts a small number of short tutorials on network science software. The role of the exhibition is to be a theme-oriented survey of software created in academia and business.
